The lost walkers had provided an approximate Grid Reference which the team aimed for and commenced a search in the poor visibility. Happily the 2 walkers had already been located by other hillwalkers and were being led down the mountain towards the search teams and the welcome sight of Search Dog Dugald. The walkers were appreciative of the teams efforts and were uninjured and relieved to be led to safety. This incident occurred during a week of severe snow storms in South west Scotland and Arran which was featured in the media and TV Channels across the UK. Many homes became stranded and power was lost due to electricity power lines being affected by the ice and snow. Outcome Relevant details: Happily a dog team from SARDA Scotland located the man a few kms to the southeast of the summit of Ben Vorlich. He was cold tired but otherwise safe and well. He was able to walk of the hill guided by searchers. Further police enquiries ongoing. This incident was one of three urgent searches for vulnerable missing people ongoing in the Clackmannanshire at the same time stretching resources considerably. Interest - Dog handler Rupert had to contact the Fire Service after discovering a fire at a disused house within his search area. His quick reaction prevented further damage. Outcome Relevant details: Ben More - 72 year old man was reported overdue by local hotel staff where he was staying. Dog team were on standby as Killin MRT Team members located a solitary torch light on the NW side of the mountain. The torch light was the missing man who'd fallen on the steep sided slope. He had minor injuries and was airlifted from the mountain by RAF helicopter. He was returned to his hotel safe and well. The dog team were thereafter directed along with the rest of the Killin MRT to join the search at Inverlochlarig. Stob Choin (southside of Balquhidder Glen near Inverlochlarig) - 66 year old man was reported overdue whilst walking the Corbett - Stob Choin. Search parties were engaged in searching the northface of the mountain with assistance of the RAF helicopter. Dog teams were tasked to search the woodland of Gillies Hill near Cambusbarron, which was a short walk from the family home. Over the course of the evening search, police and family members were able to start a dialogue with the missing man, via text messaging service on his mobile phone. He was clearly upset but also clearly alive and well. After several hours of searching the woodland paths the dog teams were stood down. Searches were directed to be carried out in woodland and farmland to the south east from West Calder.  This was carried out but nothing was found. Further searches to resume on 07/02/2012. 2012 - 08 - Livingston - DAY 2 - 1 dog assisted Lothian and Borders Police and Tweed Valley MRT along with teams from Borders SARU and SARDA Scotland in the continuation of the search for a 35 year old man missing from his home near Livingston. Enquiries led to searches being concentrated near to the village of Addiewell and areas of woodland and farmland to the southeast. Whilst this was ongoing searchers located a body of male in woodland near to HMP Addiewell. Later confirmed to be that of the missing man. The experienced hillwalker had been missing for over 6 days and extensive searches were carried out previously. A vast area of land to the west of Ben MacDui was searched but nothing found. Family members expressed concern for the lady who was last seen 2 days previously, after tending to her horses. Search teams were tasked to search fields and woodland to the south of the River Carron. Weather conditions were atrocious with strong winds and heavy rain. The search was subsequently stood down until the following morning 26/01/2012. 2012 - 06 Carron Bridge DAY 2 - 2 dogs assisted Central Scotland Police and teams from Ochils MRT and Lomond MRT in a continuation of the search for the missing woman. Search teams were tasked to search farmland and woods surrounding Loch Coulter and Buckieburn Reservoirs. About 30-45 minutes after the search commenced information came to light that the lady was infact sheltering within a caravan at the Carron Bridge Hotel. A party of 4 friends were walking several Munros, including An Casteal and Ben a Chroin, in the Crianlarich hills. One of the party decided not to complete the last Munro, however, became lost in misty conditions. He eventually managed to find his way onto a land rover track just as teams members convened at RV point to begin search. The search continued the following day but stood down after the body of male was discovered on the open hillside about 500 metres from the public road. Missing person was subsequently found by searching police officers down a steep hill on the edge of a cornfield. He was alive but suffering effects of exposure and injury as a result of a fall. His vehicle was found abandoned on a secluded road near Ballikinrain, Balfron, overlooked by the Fintry hills, where the search was being concentrated. As events unfolded police were following a positive line of enquiry to trace the person and handlers were stood down on route. The man who was fit and regular to the hills in the area was found, unconscious, close to the summit by a search party from Tayside MRT. He was stretchered off the hillside to below the cloud level where he was uplifted by helicopter and conveyed to hospital. Sadly he later died in hospital. Wooded areas near his home were searched with nothing found. A search was carried out throughout the night including assistance from Rescue 177 HMS Gannet. There was no trace of the individual and the search was stood down about 0200hrs. The search resumed later that morning and teams from Lomond and Ochils MRT were also on route to assist. After a short while the man was spotted by helicopter walking back to Auchtertyre and uplifted. The man who also suffered from a heart condition, had been missing overnight, but was subsequently located by team members of Galloway MRT prior to arrival of dog teams who were stood down on route. The man was airlifted by helicopter to hospital. Dog teams and MRT members searched overnight for the couple in heavy rain and miserable conditions and they were subsequently located to the west of Loch Brandy. A 28 year old female had to be stretchered off the hill to a waiting helicopter. Upon mist clearing she managed to speak with police on telephone and have a sighting on farm buildings and loch below which were identified as Inverlochlarig / Loch Voil in Balquhidder Glen. The missing man was subsequently found alive, by Rescue 177, near to the summit of the mountain suffering from exhaustion and dehydration. On investigation it was found that this was the missing person who had fallen over a crag and had serious injuries. Briar indicated to his handler and took him to the injured walker.
